Unlocking a Growth Mindset
A small business owner seeks a strategic thinking partner to challenge her assumptions, help her create structure and give her practical tools and strategies to ensure growth and evolution.
Taking the leap
“When I became a small business owner, I realized I need to hold space to be helped once a month by an objective thinking partner — someone to help me proactively think about how I can continue to grow and evolve,” said X. “I tend to get into a corner with my thinking. I can get stuck in assumptions that things have to be a certain way. Working with MKLC helps me snap out of those patterns and take different perspectives, which has been so important for me as I am building my business.”
Finding a cadence
After working with MKLC in several different ways over the past four years, X signed up for the Core Coaching program. X. meets with MKLC once a month for sessions that range from solving a strategic challenge, to planning for the future, to noticing an emergent mindset or mapping out a new idea for the business.
“I appreciate the flexibility of that kind of engagement,” X. said. “Over the past two years, MKLC has helped me grow my business by identifying my ideal clients and supporting me as I navigate ongoing challenges and issues. They have helped me clarify my strategy and positioning, while also working with me to uncover new possibilities and guide my thinking about how to improve my business offering and manage myself as a business owner.”
Growth that builds confidence and comfort with change
“As I have worked with MKLC, my revenue has significantly increased, and I have been able to be more specific about the kinds of clients that I serve. It has given me more confidence—but also more focus. I have learned that I can say no to work that doesn’t feel right. I have given myself permission to take time off. And generally, I have more confidence that I can design the kind of structures that work best for me in my business, and I know that this will also work best for my clients.”
X. has also worked to build a new relationship with change. “My relationship to work is different now because I am more at ease with change. I welcome change now. Before I started working with MKLC, change made me uneasy. Now I find it kind of exciting to always design for change and I have the mental space to see the possibilities that change presents. It results in a more organic relationship to work where it is changing me, and I am also actively involved in changing the work.”
A thriving, growing business
Through the Core Coaching program, X. has been able to uncover new ways of thinking about her business that unlocked creativity, confidence and ultimately, growth. She is now considering making another big leap with her business and is continuing her engagement with MKLC to map out how that could work and bring that vision to reality.
